Astrid was built in The Netherlands in 1918 as a cargo ship and traded in the Baltic until the mid seventies. The ship was found off the English coast in 1984 after she had been destroyed by fire during her time under the Lebanese flag. Her strong hull survived and was rebuilt by two British ex naval officers and became a sail training ship for young people. Since 1998 Astrid has been back in Holland and has been fully restored and equipped as a luxury sailing ship. She is a magnificent seaworthy brig and looks amazing with her 16 sails and steel hull. The Funchal 500 Tall ships Regatta was the most amazing experience and we were privileged to be part of it. Having been invited to go onboard this fantastic ship, we were able to give the captain of Astrid the painting Harvey had done of her, as way of a thank you for coming to Falmouth.
